In the Home Championship match, played on 25th April 1970 at Glasgow, Scotland and England drew 0-0.
The above Scotland International cap was awarded to the Celtic full-back Tommy Gemmell who made a total of 18 appearances for Scotland at full International level. Gemmell joined Celtic in October 1961 from Coltness United and before joining Nottingham Forest in December 1971 he had made in excess of 400 first-team appearances for the club, scoring 64 goals. 31 (from 34) of these goals were converted from the penalty spot and, without doubt, his most important goal for his side was in the European Cup victory over Inter Milan in the 1966-67 final. His long-range shot brought Celtic onto level terms with Inter and thereafter the Glasgow side went on to win the match, with Steve Chalmers scoring the winning goal. During an incredibly successful period with Celtic he won 7 League Championship's; 3 Scottish Cup's and 4 League Cup's and was a runner-up in the 1969-70 European Cup final when he scored Celtic's goal in a defeat by Feyenoord.
