In the Friendly match against Sweden, played on 1st November 1959 at Dublin, Ireland won 3-2. In the Friendly match against Chile, played on 30th March 1960 at Dublin, Ireland won 2-0, Noel Cantwell scoring one of the goals. In the Friendly match against Sweden, played on 18th May 1960 at Malmo, Ireland were defeated 4-1.

The above International cap was awarded to Noel Cantwell who was born on 28th February 1932 in Cork, Ireland. As a youngster he played for Western Rovers and Cork Athletic before joining West Ham United in September 1952. He made 248 League and 15 Cup appearances, scoring 12 goals for the Hammers, before joining Manchester United, for a then record fee of (29,500 for a full-back, in November 1960. He captained United to their 1963 F.A.Cup final win, when they defeated Leicester City 3-1 and he played a total of 144 games for United scoring 8 goals, before joining Coventry City as manager in October 1967. Cantwell played a total of 36 times for the Republic of Ireland International side, scoring 13 goals
