NELSON LOOSES HIS ARM - TENERIFFE

Nelson Reports from the "Theseus, off Santa Cruz, July 27, 1797" ... I am under the painful necessity of acquainting you that we have not been able to succeed in our attack...
With:- "List of Killed, Wounded , Drowned and Missing, of his Majesty's ships undermentioned, in storming Santa Cruz, in the Island of Teneriffe, on the night of The 24th July 1797"...Officers Wounded -- Rear-Admiral Nelson, his right Arm shot off (Page 2 col 3 -- 30 cm of col space). NELSON REFUSES TO SURRENDER AND ISSUES THREAT.
Further details received by The Seahorse ...when the Spanish Governor summoned the British Admiral to surrender:- This was indignantly refused; and to a second message Sir H Nelson proposed that boats should be provided to convey his troops back to their ships, and threatened, in the event of refusal, to destroy the town, of which he was in possession, and then cut his way back, or perish in the attempt... Arriving in Portsmouth in the Seahorse, Nelson is greeted with attention and respect, before proceeding to Bath. (Page 3 col 1 -- 17cm. of col space).
