A CIGAR PRESENTED BY STALIN TO CHURCHILL. Churchill had flown to Moscow on 12 August 1942 in order to inform Stalin that there was no prospect of opening a second front in Europe that year: 'we parted in an atmosphere of goodwill', Churchill was to remember.
