A pair of Satsuma square shaped vases
19th century
with cylindrical necks, flattened rims and tapering short feet, painted and gilt with panels of officials and attendants on terraces and before screens, alternating with further panels of birds amongst fruit and flower sprays before vases of flowers, jardinieres and baskets, the necks with scattered fans between bands of butterflies and honey-comb motifs, the feet with karashishi and geometric and floral designs -- 14in. (35.5cm.) high, (one cracked).
