A Satsuma slender tapering square vase
19th century
painted and gilt to the upper sides with square panels of warriors in interiors, boys at play and figures before retreats in mountainous landscapes, all above a multitude of chrysanthemums, peonies, hydrangea, daisies and irises around the lower part of the body, the shoulder with numerous birds in flight, all within geometric bands -- 5¾in. (14.5cm.) high, signed Kaizan sei.
