The corniche case mounted with porcelain side panels and rear door, the sides each depicting a courting couple in period costume, within gilt borders and Sévres style blue reserves (both with restored cracks), the rear painted with a swan on a lake with a classical ruin to the shore, and with inscription to the inside Haut Porte DC 7.40, the conforming dial with strong gilt border around a scene of a gentleman leaning against a pillar to one side and of ladies in the distance to the other, with Roman chapter ring above, the centre painted with trailing flowers and a bird cage, with retail signature GILES ...RO & CO CHICAGO (slightly rubbed), with gilt hands, the alarm ring below with Sèvres style blue centre, the twin barrel movement with silvered platform to the bimetallic balance with lever escapement, with strike and alarm on gong to the backplate numbered 740
