2 volumes, 8o (176 x 106 mm). (Some browning and spotting as usual, heavier in vol. II.) Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, smooth spines gilt-lettered and -ruled (a bit rubbed, some wear along joints and at extremities). Provenance: Noble Beveridge (contemporary signatures on titles and front free endpapers) -- Estelle Doheny (paper bookplates).

FIRST EDITION with the following points: vol. I: p.71 without foliation, p.89 mispaged 93, p.243 reads "XIV" for "XVI," p.vii reads "vi." The copyright notices read "a Book" in both volumes, and the blank conjugate of the title-leaf is present in vol. II, as are the terminal blanks in each volume. The Last of the Mohicans was the second in the Leatherstocking series although it was the first to be published. BAL 3833; Johnson High Spots 24. (2)
