FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, with the 24-page advertisements in vol. II noted in some copies (there was also a 36-page catalogue issued). The American publication followed the London publication by approximately two months. The Headsman is set in Switzerland in the early eighteenth century. BAL 3860. (2)
