The rectangular moulded top inlaid with squares of specimen wood surrounded by borders of ebony and sycamore and banded with triangles and lozenges of specimen woods enclosing a sycamore and ebony interior, the underside of the top veneered with squares of specimen woods, above a walnut frieze, on end-supports carved as tree trunks entwined with serpents, on a stepped base, the underside with depository label printed 'LAITHWAITE', lacking one snake tail
