A Lacquer Letter Case (Fubako)
Edo period (18th-19th century)
Of rectangular shape with domed cover, illustrated with young shoots of pine and scattered itsutsuyama crests in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e on a nashiji ground, one end of the box with round hills lacquered in gold takamaki-e, hirame and kimpun on a roiro ground with details in okibirame and aogai, the interior and base roiro with sparse nashiji, with gilt-copper ring fittings cast with matching crests
15½ x 3 5/8 x 3 1/8 in. (39.3 x 9.3 x 8 cm.)
