Surmounted by a rectangular white marble top above a vitruvian scroll frieze, above a fall-down panel, the lock plate stamped ELSSEY'S, Great portland Street, London, centred by an oval plaque depicting a bird protecting its nest from an attacking snake, opening to reveal two open compartments and four drawers, above a gilt-tooled green leather writing surface, the front angles flanked by a fluted column, above a secret frieze drawer, centred by a rectangular panel depicting a Classical scene, on four square tapering legs, joined by a shaped stretcher, on four tapering feet
