Of bulbous form, the body carved from the yellow overlay in the form of a handled basket with floral diaper pattern, decorated on either side with a prancing horse carved through the green overlay, stopper

Lot Essay

This unique glass overlay is carved to simulate a wickerwork basket meant to contain large jars for liquids, such as oil or wine. Basketweave bottles from the mid-Qing Court are well known, but this is the only example with a superimposed design.
