Signed Kohosai (Osaka), Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
Manju, heavily stained ivory; deeply carved with a huge figure, perhaps a Nio [Deva King or Buddhist guardian deity], brandishing a sword over a screaming smaller figure in a Chinese-style hat, the reverse with a rock and tree in lower relief, the himotoshi formed by two equal holes on the reverse, signed on the reverse with incised and stained characters Kohosai, old wear
