Lot Essay

Formerly attributed to Leendert van der Cooghen, the present sheet is comparable in facial type to the head of Mary in Aertsen's Christ with Martha and Mary in the Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, M. J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, Leiden, 1975, XIII, no. 306, pl. 153.
