A KHORASSAN BRONZE MACE HEAD
North East Iran, 12th century
Of cylindrical form with six radiating flaring ribs, the ribs engraved with kufic inscriptions set against scrolling grounds or scrolling floral motifs, the flanges divided by feathered engraving, a band of naskh inscription below, copper-inlaid trangles above, slight denting and corrosion, inlay missing from naskh inscription
4½in. (11.4cm.) high
