Lot Essay

The present lot depicts a typical Dutch 19th century kitchen interior. It holds a number of determinable 17th century objects, such as the Dutch oak and ebony cupboard - Toogkast - and the Dutch rosewood draw-leaf table. The clock however is 19th century: it is a Dutch gilt leaf and brass bracket clock - stoelklok -. This type of bracket clock has its origins in the 17th century, but was first made in this shape in the 18th century.
