Late 19th century, impressed monogram and sceptre mark, incised 15-12, impressed H, workshop label for Franz Xaver Thallmaier, signed Maltz.
Finely painted after Peter Paul Rubens with a portrait of the artist and his first wife, Isabella Brant
15 x 12in. (38 x 30.4cm.), within a gilt wood frame

Although certainly a reflection of marital status, this work is noted as one of the first to also reveal new social ideals of marriage being more than an economic pact.
