Circa 1815, underglaze blue sceptre mark, Pressnummer 19B
The centre painted in sepia with a classical figure, seated and tied to a tree-stump, within an oval blue-ground band cartouche reserved with a band of white foliage Vitruvian scroll ornament, the border with a band of pierced gilt-edged Vitruvian scrolls within a broad blue-ground band moulded and painted en grisaille with vases divided by mythical winged figures feeding winged lions, gilt line rim (very minor rubbing to gilt rim)
9 7/8 in. (25 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Frederick Duke of York (1763-1827), Commander in Chief of the British army and immortalised in song as 'The Grand Old Duke of York...', was the second son of King George III. In 1791 he became the son-in-law of Freidrich Wilhelm II of Prussia when he married Princess Frederica of Prussia.
