A GEORGE III SILVER MONTEITH
Mark of Kirkby Waterhouse & Co., Sheffield, 1818
Partly fluted hemispherical, on slightly domed foot chased with scrolling foliage and oak-leaf border, the bowl repoussé and chased with a broad band of scrolling foliage, putti and pomegranates on a matted ground, interspersed with three cartouches, all later engraved, the first with a monogram and coronet, the second with a date January 25th 1883, the third with a presentation inscription, the shaped upper border of the bowl with masks, ribbon-tied laurel garlands and paterae, the underside engraved with a later inscription, monogram and crest and facsimile signature, marked on base
11¾ in. (30 cm.) diam.

The inscription in the cartouche reads, Presented To The Crown Prince & Princess of Germany by the Members of Queen Victoria's Household who were in the Royal Household in 1858. The inscription on the base reads, Adalbert = Von Herzogin Charlotte von Meiningen 1919 geerbt. Meinem Vater Kaiser Wilhelm II geschenkt anlässlich meiner Silberhochzeit in Doorn 3. VIII. 1939. This translates as, Adalbert - inherited from Herzogin Charlotte von Meiningen in 1919. Presented to my father Kaiser Wilhelm II on the occasion of my silver anniversary in Doorn, 3 August 1939.
