Lot Essay

Little is known about the artist, who Houbraken records as having been Aelbert Cuyp's teacher and who, like his pupil, was active in Dordrecht. Only a small number of paintings by Tegelberg are known; the present lot can be compared to the river landscape, identically signed, that was with Katz, Dieren, before 1948, as Aelbert Cuyp (photograph in the RKD).
