A LARGE CYPRIOT WHITE PAINTED WARE BIRD ASKOS
LATE BRONZE AGE, 1650-1050 B.C.
The barrel-shaped body with stylized bird's neck side spout, with projecting beak, a second cylindrical spout on the centre back with everted rim, loop handle behind, small side wing projections, remains of black painted decoration, with repair, 6¾ in. (17.2 cm.) high; a White Shaved Ware 'owl' rattle, the body tapered to pointed base, with black painted vertical lines, the stylized owl's head with pierced eye holes, vertical loop handle, rattle now missing, repaired, Late Bronze Age, 1650-1475 B.C., 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) high; and a Cypro-Syrian incised ware bird-shaped rattle, with lugs indicating tail and wings, the body with pierced holes, on stem foot, circa 2nd millennium B.C., 2 7/8 in.
