A ROMAN POTTERY 'GLADIATORS' LAMP

Brown slip, the concave discus relief decorated with a gladiatorial combat scene, each figure with crested helmets, greaves, wielding short swords and small rectangular shields, the figure on the right with his arms held in surrender, his shield on the ground, twin volutes flanking the rounded nozzle, maker's mark on base; and a pottery lamp in the form of a lion, red slip, reclining astride two nozzles one at either end, a circular hole on its rump and a suspension loop at the back of the neck, 3rd Century A.D.
