A Stevens clockwork cyclist.
with 'EXCLR' shoulder-head and moulded blonde hair, pressed metal hands and boots, riding velocipede with open-spring motor and red tinplate cover printed Patd. Jan. 25th and Feb. 1, 1870, the mechanism causing the figure to pedal forwards and turn to the left or right, in green breeches and mauve velvet jacket - 10in. (26cm.), (some paint damage to the head), American, circa 1870.

Stevens & Brown of Cromwell, Connecticut patented the 'Champion Velocipede' toy in 1870; it was offered for sale by Althof Bergmann and illustrated on the cover page of Stevens 1872 catalogue.
