Lot Essay

Although French by birth, Paul Maze settled in England and enjoyed painting typically English scenes including regattas, racecourses and ceremonial occasions. His London work reflects his particular gift for portraying military parades. Maze had served in the Royal Scots Greys during the First World War and thereafter regimental friends would ensure that a stand was erected for him to paint major military ceremonial occasions.
