Lot Essay

The present view is taken from the North Bank, the artist has positioned himself underneath the arches of Cannon Street Railway Bridge and is looking towards London Bridge in the distance. The large and prominent industrial structure on the Thames is the Pier of the City of London Brewery Company which stood alongside Cannon Street Station. The Old Swan Pier is also visible further in the distance.
