2 volumes in one, 2o (405 x 260 mm). 100 engraved hand-colored plates (including one double-page) after Samuel Fallours and others (minor foxing to a few plates). 18th-century sprinkled calf (rebacked, upper joint cracked). Provenance: V. K. Hazlett (ownership inscription).

FIRST EDITION. A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED WORK ON FISH AND CRABS OF THE EAST INDIES. Fallours is acknowledged as the artist of the illustrations in the second volume, but is also responsible for some of the illustrations in the first volume. At the time of publication the illustrations in the work were viewed as fable and fantasy products. Although some of the illustrations are exaggerated, all of them seem to be based on nature.
