A LATE LOUIS XV ORMOLU-MOUNTED TULIPWOOD, KINGWOOD AND FLORAL TRELLIS PARQUETRY TABLE EN CHIFFONNIERE
The oval crossbanded and later red leather-lined top with three-quarter pierced gallery above a trellis frieze fitted with a drawer, with a green leather writing-surface flanked by an inkwell, on cabriole legs with scrolled acanthus sabots headed by rosettes, inscribed in ink '... Noisy Ebeniste rue de la ... annellerie... en face la halle au drap ... au cheval Bl...', previously with an undertier, one rosette mount replaced in the 19th Century, the top probably originally with parquetry veneer
28½ in. (72.5 cm.) high; 19 in. (48.5 cm.) wide; 13½ in. (34.5 cm.) deep
Provenance
Possibly bought by Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Bath (1765-1837) or
more likely John Alexander, 4th Marquess of Bath (1831-1896) for 48 Berkeley Square, London and by descent after his death at Longleat.
