Lot Essay

A similar vase from the National Trust, Ascott Collection, was included in the exhibition, 'The Arts of the Ch'ing Dynasty', Oriental Ceramic Society, 1963-64, Catalogue, no. 167.

The inspiration for the shape of the present vase, which probably forms part of a set, is based on the narrow-footed amphora vases, more typically found under a monochrome peachbloom glaze during the Kangxi period.
