SIX BRONZE PORTRAIT PROFILE RELIEFS OF SWEDISH KINGS
Sweden, early 19th century
Depicting Gustav Vasa, Gustav II Adolf, Karl X, Karl XII, Karl XIII and Karl XIV Johan; each relief on a circular bronze ground surrounded by a gilt-metal border and an ebonised wood frame.
Greenish brown and dark brown patina; minor scratches to wood frames.

Lot Essay

The present lot depicts a selection of Swedish kings from two of the principal Swedish Dynasties; most notably the Vasa and Wittelsbach. Depicted here are the Vasa kings Gustav Vasa (1523 - 1560) and Gustav II Adolf (1611 - 1632), and the Wittelsbach kings Karl X (1654 - 1660), Karl XII (1697 - 1718) the remaining two kings; Karl XIII (1748-1818) and Karl XIV Johan (1763-1843) belong to the Holstein-Goltorp and Bernadotte dynasties respectively.
