A GERMAN RED AND GILT-JAPANNED CABINET-ON-STAND
Early 18th Century, possibly Berlin
Painted with fête champetre, the upper section with two doors decorated with a wooded landscape with classical ladies resting in the foreground and a fortress in the background, the sides depicting a coastal landscape and a castle, the interior with ten variously sized drawers with Italianate landscapes after Guardi, the insides of the doors with green and gilt-japanned chinoiserie motifs, a moulded frieze below, with a shaped frieze and on cabriole legs, restored split to left door, minor losses to the decoration

A related cabinet, recently in the German art trade, was attributed to the Bamberg area.
