Lot Essay

A drawing of a girl reading of the same format and technique as the present sheet was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 1968, France in the 18th Century, no. 316. Le Guay studied drawing with the porcelain company in his native Sèvres, and afterwards studied at the Académie Royale. He exhibited at the Salon between 1795 and 1819 and worked as a figure draughtsman for Sèvres, working on such famous commissions as the large vase executed for the wedding of the Emperor Napoleon I and the Empress Marie-Louise.
