The case with foliate cast brass handle surmounting a gilt-metal repoussé double basket top pressed in a trellis pattern with quatreefoil apertures and embellished with busts of feather-helmed warriors and female busts, flanked by stylised urn and acorn finials, the front and rear doors applied with further gilt-metal repoussé mounts, glazed sides, on later ebony block feet, the 7in.square dial signed Wm King LONDON on the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and sword hilt half quarter hourmarkers, pierced steel hour hand and later minute hand, the matted centre with ringed winding holes and with engraved decoration to the calendar aperture, mock pendulum aperture beneath a later (?) calendar ring adjustment square, strike/silent lever above XII, winged cherub spandrels, the movement with thick brass plates secured by six ringed pillars (centre pillar latched), twin fusees, verge escapement with Continental style crutch and later silk suspended pendulum adjusted through the chapter ring, internal rack hour strike on a bell and pull quarter repeat on four bells (later) via six hammers, the backplate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls, the movement secured by means of turn screws behind the dial and a single steel bolt into the lower central pillar
