A late 19th-Century oxidised and lacquered-brass transit theodolite,
engraved on the horizontal plate ING. A. SALMOIRAGHI MILANO 7331 and further impressed with the maker's trademark, the 15 1/8in. (38.4cm.) long telescope engraved 8137, with graduated bubble level, rack and pinion focusing and spider's web adjustment, the eyepiece with vertical skew-gear adjustment, the axis with 5-inch vertical circle located on twin A-frame supports, the vertical circle with silvered scale, twin verniers and magnifiers with ivorine reflectors, with bubble-level, the horizontal plate with cross-bubble, the enclosed silvered horizontal circle with twin verniers A and B and folding magnifiers with ivorine reflectors, with tangent-screw fine adjustment and screw-clamp, on similarly adjusted tripod stand with screw feet and foot pads -- 13¾in.
