A 25-BORE NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN FLINTLOCK TRADE GUN
By Sargant & Son, London and Birmingham, circa 1836-39
With three-stage sighted barrel engraved 'London' on the top of the octagonal breech and stamped with imitation tombstone fox mark above the initials 'IA' (for the American Fur Company, 1808-1844), the tang numbered '61', signed rounded border engraved lock with the same fox mark as the breech and locksmith's initials 'WS' (for William Sargant), walnut full stock with raised moulding at the barrel tang, iron trigger-guard, brass butt-plate, brass side-plate cast and chased with a marine monster in relief, two turned brass ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod, in unusually fine condition throughout, Birmingham proof marks
