A 22-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL

With swamped barrel in three stages divided by mouldings, plain tang, signed border engraved rounded lock decorated with strawberry foliage and with moulded border (cock repaired), moulded rootwood full stock heightened with artificial figuring (minor defects) with pronounced swelling behind the rear ramrod-pipe and raised apron at the barrel tang, iron mounts, pierced and chiselled dragonesque side-plate, trigger-guard with foliate finial, engraved spurred pommel with chiselled grotesque mask cap, escutcheon with grotesque mask above and beneath and later inscription 'Don Miguel', baluster ramrod-pipes, and later iron-capped ramrod (iron parts with some wear and surface pitting), London proof marks

Humphrey Pickfatt, Jr. was free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1688, Master in 1706, Contractor to Ordnance from 1689 to 1721, to the East India Company from 1705 to 1709, to the Hudson's Bay Company from 1698 to 1725, and to the Royal African Company from 1717 to 1721. His will was proved in 1738
