An early Victorian mahogany longcase regulator, circa 1850
The hood with architectural top and fielded panels, canted front angles, the trunk door with brass-lined glazed front door and also flanked by canted angles, on plinth with quatreform moulding and base raised on bracket feet, the 13in. diameter silvered and engraved dial of regulator format and inscribed REGULATOR, signed in the centre J. Hodge Helston, blued steel hands, the substantial six conical pillar movement with inverted T-shaped plates, wheels with six crossings, deadbeat escapement and maintaining power -- 87in. (221cm.) high
