TRAVELLING METAL BOXES
A Burroughs Wellcome & Co. 'tabloid' brand medicine chest, with hinged lid in two sections, each section with enclosed compartment with flap lid, one lid with impressed brand label of Burroughs Wellcome & Co.
10¼ x 15¾ x 8¼in. (260 x 400 x 210mm.)
with a Needs & Co. Late Bramah & Co. ebonised rectangular portable strong-box with initials 'H.M.S.' in gold on the hinged lid and another black painted metal box with 'H.M.Stanley' in white lettering on the lid.
Metal boxes and particularly light-weight tin boxes, were very useful in tropical situations, well sealed against water and insects. Stanley used metal trunks for all his expeditions. (3)
