Lot Essay

Stanley felt a close allegiance with Missouri as it had played an important role in the early years of his journalistic career. His first foray into the world of journalism began in May 1865, writing as an 'occasional' for the Missouri Democrat in St Louis filing stories from the gold fields of Colorado and the wild west towns of Denver, Central City and Black Hawk City.
