Title in blue and black, half-title. Photogravure portrait frontispiece, 109 leaves of plates (1 folding, 3 double-page, 12 coloured, 1 photogravure, 92 printed recto and verso), 1 folding map printed in four colours, illustrations. (Folding plate creased and with small tears to upper margin.)

FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, THE AUTHOR'S COPY PRESENTED TO HIM BY THE TRANSLATOR. Spence records the reduced edition (with 221pp., and fewer illustrations) that was published in 1911, as, in a footnote, does Rosove.

Original blue cloth, upper covers blocked in silver, spines blocked in gilt, t.e.g. (some scuffing to silver on covers, spines somewhat soiled). Provenance: 'File Copy' stamped on both title pages, manuscript note at front of vol.I 'File Copy Kingswood 440'.
