FIRST EDITION AND AN IMPORTANT PRESENTATION COPY of 'the principal firsthand account of the Ross Sea shore party of Shackleton's 1914-17 expedition' (Rosove). The inscription, in blue ink on the space beneath the picture on the frontispiece, reads 'To Doc Pleasant memories of Antarctic together. Yours Radiantly Ernest E. Mills Joyce'. Marshall served as Surgeon and Cartographer on Shackleton's Nimrod expedition, and was one of the Farthest South Party. Conrad p.220; Rosove 188.A1.b; Spence 642; Taurus 106.
