In 1887 the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind scheduled the second Faneuil Hall Fair as a fundraiser for their kindergarten. Katherine Lowell decided to produce a book based on a manuscript her 13-year old daughter Amy Lawrence Lowell was writing for the benefit of the Fair. Amy contributed six stories, the balance of the text coming from her sister Elizabeth ("Bessie") and Mrs. Lowell herself. The Fair was cancelled, but the School held a bazaar, at which copies of Dream Drops were sold for the benefit of the Perkins Institution. BAL 12960; Seven Gables First Books 181. A VERY FINE LOWELL FAMILY ASSOCIATION..
