Lot Essay

Jacques-François Micaud père is recorded at Sèvres 1757-1810 as a painter specializing in flowers and patterns. His mark, either a Maltese cross or a slap-dash X is often confused with that of the flower painter Philippe Xhrouet. However, the date yetter Y for 1776 on the present piece confirms Micaud as its painter, as Xhrouet has left the factory's employ by this date.

Michel-Barnabé Chauvaux père is recorded at Vincennes and Sèvres 1752-1788 as a gilder
