AN OTTOMAN MOTHER-OF PEARL AND TORTOISESHELL VENEERED TABOURET
Turkey, 17th century
Of octagonal form with arched flat sides, the slightly recessed centre of the top with a complex geometric design based on a ten-pointed star, some of the central panels with subsidiary inset arabesques, in a reciprocal trefoil border, ivory and ebony chequered stringing between panels, the border with lozenge-motifs, each of the eight sides with a panel of interlaced arabesques within a band of inset cartouches and lozenges above a cusped arched opening, old collection label and geometric design on the underside, minimal loss of inlay and old restoration
