A SELECTION OF MASSETO DIRECT FROM THE WINERY RESERVES INCLUDING UNIQUE MAGNUMS OF THE 1997 VINTAGE
This remarkable wine was first produced on the Ornellaia Estate in 1986, when it was noted by owner, Lodovico Antinori, that the Merlot grapes within the blend tended to dominate the finished wine. Although it was not commercialised at this point, 800 bottles of the pure Merlot were produced and the concept of Masseto was born. Taking advice from Emile Peynaud and Andre Tschelicheff, the wine was developed further and in 1991, consultant enologist Michel Rolland took the helm at the Winery. Amongst the lots on offer, we include an interesting vertical selection in standard bottles and the first-ever release of the 1997 vintage in magnum formats.
