SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)

Of flaring sides rising to the everted rims, supported on a short ring foot, the interior finely carved with a single stem of flowering peony, growing curled leaves to the sides, the multiple petals bearing two characters, Da guan, 'flourishing', within a border, the glaze of olive-green with a yellow tinge
3 7/8 in. (10 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A shard bearing this unusual two-character mark, Da Guan, is published in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 12, p. 221, fig. 76; illustrated together with another shard bearing a two-character mark, Zhenghe, ibid., p. 221, these appear to be the only two published marks for official Yaozhou wares.
