ZHENGDE SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1506-1521)

Well potted with steep rounded sides and a flared rim resting on a narrow, slightly tapered foot, covered on the interior and exterior with an even glaze of bright egg-yolk yellow tone, the base with a transparent blue-tinged glaze

Lot Essay

A slightly smaller bowl (18.2 cm. diam.) also from the Edward T. Chow Collection, was sold in Hong Kong, 19 May 1981, lot 456; and again, 17 May 1988, lot 4, as part of an Important Private Collection of Ming and Qing Porcelain. Other similar Zhengde-marked yellow-glazed bowls include one in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ming Dynasty Porcelain, pl. 105; a pair illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, London, 1986, vol. II, no. 775; and a smaller bowl illustrated by J. Ayers, Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, pl. 155.
