QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

Each rectangular plaque is finely incised and decorated with gilt on both sides with a floral spray and a short poem, the plants including osmanthus, prunus, apricot blossoms, begonia, iris, peach blossoms, and bamboo, each enclosed within openwork frames carved with lotus scrolls, the stone of pale celadon tone with areas of opaque inclusions

Lot Essay

The text inscribed on each side of the panels is a complete set of ten short stanzas elucidating the qualities of ten different type wild flora, and recorded in Qing Gaozong Yuzhi shiwen quanji, 'The complete composition of Imperial poems by Qing (Dynasty) Gaozong', vol. 3, Gugong bowuyuan yinhang, 1965, juan 40.
