Lot Essay

This poster was produced for May Belfort's appearance at the Petit Casino in 1895. This proof impression, printed in dark green and before the addition of colors, and the publisher's address gives us the artist's original concept. Such proofs were often used by Lautrec as maquettes for color experimentation in the production of the final states of the lithographic posters.
