Lot Essay

This poster was commissioned by Arthur Huc, the proprietor of La Depêche, a Toulouse newspaper, to advertise a serialised novel. Le Tocsin was a lurid story by Jules de Gastyne. As with several other small posters, this impression was probably produced to satisfy the demand for Lautrec's work amongst collectors.
